Winery in Tinos – under construction
Island of Tinos, Greece
The new winery of T-OINOS is conceived as a response to a unique vineyard maturing in a landscape of granite formations, on the island of Tinos.
The structure of the main buildings, with T-shaped cantilevered slabs, is derived from the way the vines grow, first vertically and then horizontally.
The winery is designed to accommodate the production process of both red and white wine in a highly flexible linear space with controlled natural light. The ageing cellar below the main production space is buried into the ground, to provide a stable and regulated environment. The wine tasting area is on the upper level of the smaller adjacent wing, with an open horizon to the sea at a distance.
The new complex, which includes a third supporting building, responds to the land topography and is derived by the notion of repetitive movement anticipated during the operation of the winery. The structural solution is a generating and integral part of the design concept, as the side elevations of the main building are perceived as cross sections.
